COURSE SUMMARY:  The intent of this course is to provide dental practitioners a solid foundation to manage aerosol and splatter and understand why it's important to do so. The course will also provide the dental community with practical guidance and education regarding current techniques, protocols, and tools - and when they are most appropriate to use.

Did you know that it wasn't until the early 90's that gloves were legally required for dental clinicians? It takes a pandemic for dental professionals as a whole to see the light. The incidence of aerosol-creating procedures has only increased. Healthcare professionals need to reassess the "invisible" risks and combat them by applying infection control protocols before, during and after patient care. In ten years it should be the goal of every dental practice, to look back and say, "How did we work in such conditions?" - As it shows continuous development and growth. Let's take the first step in that direction.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Summarize the physical properties of aerosol and splatter

  2. Evaluate the health implications of not controlling aerosols and splatter

  3. List classifications and attributes of aerosol management decisions

  4. Identify existing methodology used to reduce aerosols and splatter

  5. Analyze existing methodology from a financial perspective

  6. Design proper protocols with aerosol management technologies for clinical use
