Dr. Kirsten Roling, DDS

Dr. Kirsten Roling completed dental school training at the University of California, San Francisco; during the height of the HIV/AIDS Pandemic.  Dr. Roling is credited as one of the early pioneers of Teledentistry in 2000 during her time as a rural dentist. Her clinical practice spans pediatrics to geriatrics. Previously an Assistant Clinical Professor, UCSF; and Public Health Preceptor, ASDOH, Dr. Roling held the position of Chief for the Office of Oral Health, Maricopa County, Public Health Dept.

DESCRIPTION:

Xerostomia or Dry Mouth is the fastest growing oral health condition affecting 25% of adults in the U.S. In this online, live, webinar we will learn the causes of xerostomia, the consequences of untreated dry mouth,  what dental clinicians can do to prevent its devastation, and special considerations in the geriatric population. Diagnosing xerostomia can be an important diagnostic tool for other systemic diseases, and assessing the patient's overall health and well-being. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand and define xerostomia.

  • Describe the oral anatomy and physiology related to salivary function.

  • Know the role of saliva.

  • Recognize at risk populations for developing xerostomia.

  • Develop and prescribe short-term and long-term treatment options.
