Dr. Burchman is a leading international expert in the field of laser dentistry. He has maintained a general dentistry practice in Bucks County, PA since 1976. He began using lasers in 1999 and now has eight lasers in his practice. In 2001, he received Advanced Proficiency in Nd: YAG from the A.L.D.
In 2003, he received the "The Science Behind the Clinic of Laser Dentistry" award for his presentation on, "Nd: YAG and Diode Laser Therapy in the Medically Compromised Patient". In 2003, his office was featured in Men's Health Magazine "The Drill is Gone."
In 2005 he received "Certified Laser Educator" status from the Academy of Laser Dentistry, and "Certificate of Mastership" in 2008. He is published twice in the Laser Academy Journal "Wavelengths" - "Lasers in the Medically Compromised Patient" and in 2012 received the "Leon Goldman Award" for laser clinical excellence. With medical and technological advances, people are living longer and contending with a wider variety of illnesses and diseases than ever before. As a result, the role of health care providers has never been more challenging. These same medical and technological advances have also opened new doors for practitioners, particularly where laser therapy is concerned. In this presentation participants will learn the ways in which lasers have made it possible to treat the side effects of chemotheapy.
PERSONAL NOTE AND AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO MY COLLEAGUES:
Many of you may have taken my courses in the past. Recently, my wife Sue was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. It is very advanced and she has been placed on a very strong Chemotherapy agent, “Fullfirinox.” It is so strong that about 30% of the patients placed on this do not complete the treatment. They are very concerned about these patients developing oral mucositis and when she meets with the oncologist the first place they check for problems is her
Now many of you have already attended my presentations on Medically Compromised Patients at ALD and other conferences or some of the many webinars I have given over the years. Many have contacted me for advice on how
to treat their family, friends or patients that are receiving chemo and I am thrilled that I am able to help.
I am offering this webinar as a public service to my dental colleagues, so that you know this webinar will have a large segment on how to use PBM to aid with many of the side effects of chemo therapy treatments. As dentists we think about oral mucositis, but patients also have chemo related sores in other areas of the body. There is also a chemo related TMJ problem, a cold and
tingling finger symptom as well as problems with nausea, headaches and stress. I will cover how I use PBM to treat all of these problems in my presentation.

Understand: How to proactively treat cancer patients to prevent Oral Mucositis and to decrease the severity of those that already have it.

In November 2003, he received the "Science Behind the Clinic of Laser Dentistry" award for his presentation on, "Nd:YAG and Diode Laser Therapy in the Medically Compromised Patient." Also in 2003, his dental practice was featured in Men's Health Magazine, entitled: "The Drill is Gone." In 2005 he received "Certified Laser Educator" status from the Academy of Laser Dentistry. he received his "Certificate of Mastership" from the Academy in 2008. He has been published twice in the laser academy journal "Wavelengths" on "Lasers in the Medically Compromised Patient" and in 2012 received the "Leon Goldman Award" for laser clinical excellence presented by the ALD. Dr. Burchman has presented on this topic over 60 times both nationally and internationally and it is his passion. He has served the Academy as: Mentor, Examiner, and Chairman of many committees, a member of the Academy Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President. In 2014, he was the Keynote Speaker at the OCMIS Laser Conference, in 2015 he was the General and Scientific Chairman of the ALD conference, in 2016 he received his "Recognized Course Provider" certification and was Chairman of the 2019 academy conference, and in 2019 he was the Keynote Speaker for the ALD-BAIRD laser conference in Qatar. In 2020 he will be the Keynote Speaker for the ALD conference in San Diego. In 2018 he had the distinct honor to testify before a Congressional Subcommittee on, "Using Dental Lasers to Help Control Opioid Abuse". He is the immediate Past President of the Academy of Laser Dentistry (2020). Previously he has lectured for: Sirona Dental, Benco Dental, Henry Schein Dental, Advanced Dental Hygiene and MedX Laser Health Systems.
