COURSE SUMMARY: Infection prevention in your dental practice begins with effective hand hygiene. The dental team may believe that wearing gloves reduces the need for effective hand hygiene – they cut corners, and it lowers compliance. Dental practices cannot afford to cut corners when it means safety for your team and patients. By implementing effective hand hygiene, the dental practice can reduce the possibility of cross contamination and help to ensure safety for patients and staff.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

•Define hand hygiene

•Review the history of hand hygiene

•Discuss the importance of hand hygiene

•Describe hand hygiene as part of standard precautions

•Explain when effective hand hygiene should be implemented

•Demonstrate effective hand hygiene techniques for non-surgical and surgical procedures
